Echium candicans also known as 'the pride of Madeira' is an eye-catching evergreen shrub, with a bushy habit of silver-green foliage and tall spires of vibrant blue/purple flowers reaching an ultimate height of 1.5m in a year. The flowers are loved by bees and other pollinators.
Incredibly drought tolerant and ideal for coastal conditions this truly stunning species thrives in full sun with a well-draining, fertile soil. Hardy down to -2c, ideally grow in a container placed in full sun and bring into a cold glasshouse over winter. (This could be plunge planted in summer). Can be planted in the ground in coastal areas but be warey of hard frosts.
